The Double Ninth
–to the tune of Gathering Mulberries
Translated by David Huang
Man ages quick and fast, in the autumn wind and rain:
Year by year the Double Ninth always returns.
On this Double Ninth day,
All things wither and easily fade.
The sorrow on my pillow has just gone,
And there comes the autumn frost once more.
But I shall face it with a brave heart,
For, in the sky, like wild geese, I shall fly!
